Shorts

Last night I found myself amongst a thronging crowd of pre-pubescent, screaming and cheering young girls...

Nope, unfortunately not the madonna concert in brixton, but actually the England women's football team in the Euro Championship play-off second leg.

Aside from the cheering masses of school kids, about 7000 of them in total, who had mostly got in for free, it was actually a fairly eventful game that wasn't too bad from a spectators point of view, not Premier League, but that can be mind boggling boring. Whether women's football in the UK can reach the same heights of popularity as in the US, I'm not sure, but it was good fun nonetheless...

Frogs

Finally succumbed and got myself a dvd player, its pretty fantastic as anticipated. So this weekend, I rather predictably watched a couple of films, the best of which was magnolia. I won't attempt a review or any such critique, but the scene at the end when it starts to raining frogs really reminded me of driving back from a Fishbone gig in Folkestone.

That particularly night, it was raining really heavily, the kind of rain that bangs the roof of your car like a drum. As I sped through the country lanes with a car full of people, I noticed that the car was sliding about on the road a bit more than normal. As I slowed the car down, we all noticed at the same time that the road was full of frogs, where they came from, don't really know. Maybe it been raining frogs?

Hiatus

Well, that was the week that was, an enforced absence brought to you from the combined source of my host, blogger and illness. But in the words of Areosmith, I'm back in the saddle.

J'aime Paris

Spent a mad weekend in Paris, went over, or should that be under, on the Eurostar from Waterloo on Friday evening. Glad to see that the public transport infrastructional problems are affecting the Eurostar as well. Hard to believe that a train that goes so fast in France can go so slow in England, we were scheduled to arrive about 11.45pm and eventually got there about half an hour late. Then had the pleasure of spending three quarters of an hour waiting for a cab, along with about hundred other people...

We had a hotel near the effiel tower, or pres de tour effiel as they say. So first thing Saturday morning, we did the obviously thing and went up it. It was alright, its quite amazing that a lump of bolted together metal is still standing over a hundred years later. Interesting bloke, Gustave Eiffel, I saw a few buildings he had designed while I was in Chile, specifically the San Marcos de Arica Church which dominates a square in Arica, course I just thought he built towers...

Spent of the rest of the weekend over indulging in everything, and thoroughly enjoyable it was too. We went round our mate Jerome's flat which has not a disimiliar view of the sacre coeur than this, drank, ate, drank more, then stumbled off back to our hotel. Ahhh the romance of Paris...

Tom & Dick

I have never really experienced travel sickness, or motion sickness of any kind. I remember one time that I was coming back to England on a cross channel ferry, and the ferries had been cancelled for a couple of days due to bad weather conditions. We were on one of the first ferries out of the harbour and it was seriously rough. There was a chorus of puking going on aboard that boat, it was quite infectious, the same way that yawns are, but I managed to get through it without throwing.

That is not to claim that I've never been sick while travelling, but the few times that this has happened has been a result of over indulgence, primarily in alcohol, worse case being in Bolivia, travelling through the andes on board an early morning coach after a particular heavy night. Worse thing about that occasion was that the windows didn't open and there weren't any sick bags. I just used my initiative and used an available plasticbag, the result though was not what one could call art.

Goatee McBeard

Been working hard on a presentation to my CEO, went over to Berlin yesterday and finally got to meet the great man. Bashed through the presentation and that was that. Thing was, I had to get up at 3.30am to get a flight over there and the meeting didn't actually take place to 5pm. Flew back last night and got home at 11pm. The result being that I'm feeling slightly knackered and am sat at work unshaven for the first time in ages. Maybe I should just grow a beard for new year.

Founding Fathers

Who were these men? 10 ancient 'fathers', who according to new genetic evidence are related to more than 95% of European men alive today. Er? What about the women? Where were they in all this? Just idly hanging around til these blokes turned up to give them a servicing? and who were the womens' 'founding fathers'? I'm afraid this has posed more questions than answers for me...

If you have the answer to the founding father questions, please email

Woof it up

Alright, continuing the musical theme, thanks to rob at tsluts for directing me over to some dogs where the exposition of the theory that country music is simply punk played too slowly is expounded. Fantastic. I am indeed a fan, and can claim to be disciple of this theory, since one of the few covers we did with co-star was Dolly Parton's 'Jolene'...

The art of self promotion

Stone the crows, I found some mp3's of co-star online. co-star was my attempt at being a rock star, and apparently this attempt lives on in the world of the internet. Shame its just a couple of bad quality clips, but I'm sure my wife will attest to the 'two minutes of pure pleasure' synopsis...

Counting Chickens

What a fantastic election, and the television networks - thank you for providing so much entertainment, Gore is President! no wait George 'double yew' Bush is President! no hang on, blimey thats close, we better have a recount. and how, the recount is done by hand, with a representative from each party and an independant official passing the ballots around and counting them until they agree on who has won.

God bless America.

Heart of Gold

What was the name of that music that used to be played during the Gallery feature in Tony Hart's programmes? Why leftbank of course!

Did you ever get any of your pictures into the Tony Hart Gallery? Well why not email your pictures to Tony's new online Gallery which to be honest appears to be sadly lacking in content and could do with a few pictures to brighten it up a bit.

Cool for Cats

Never had a cat, but if I had one I would want him to be able to express himself through the arts, I would encourage him to paint and to use physical expression through the form of dance.

Fwerank

My gorgeous german wife has emailed me expressing her baited anticipation of tonights episode of Eastenders. Apparently, everyone is talking about it at her work.

What is bizzare to me is how quickly uk television soaps have gotten under her skin. Not that I'm any better, and its probably due to my slumping in front of the telly for half an hour when I get back from work. Anyway tonight its a showdown time and adieu to a personal hero of mine, Frank Butcher.
